Charlie Bradbury
Afternoon Hunters,
In this week's blog, we will be discussing a character in Supernatural named Charlie Bradbury.
We meet Charlie in Season 7, Episode 20: The Girl with The Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo.
Charlie is a red headed woman in her 20s who loves science fiction and fantasy everything who while working a typical office job doubles as a gifted computer hacker. Sam and Dean meet her at one of Dick Roman's (season 7 Villian, Creature: Leviathan) corporate offices when they are tracking down a encrypted hard drive made by another hunter. This drive has crucial secret hunter knowledge that if the Leviathans got a look at the information things would not be good.
Charlie helps the boys out and gets the drive back and also hacks into Dick Romans communications so they can figure out what his plans are and what his movements are at that current moment.
There is a fight after Charlie gets the information and Charlie's arm get's broken but thankfully the Winchesters were closeby and got her out the building before things got too bad.
At the end of the episode we see Charlie leave the boys to get on a bus to leave town, change her name, and disappear. Not a whole lot is said about her past but this wasn't the first time she had changed alias and began anew.
Later on the boys run into Charlie again for another case and after helping them she turns from hacker to part time hunter. Dean doesn't approve of her hunting alone since the job is so dangerous but after working with her more he sees that she's able to hold her own.
The significant thing about Charlie is that while she isn't around much or for very long (she gets killed in season 10) she brings a light and humanity to the Winchester brothers that they hadn't had in a long time.
A big theme on this show is that "Family doesn't end in blood." A family found is just as special as a family you were born into and Charlie becomes the little sister they never had. They hunt together, goof around, tease, and torment one another like any other family.
To the hunters reading this, is there anyone in your life who you consider a found family/ family member? What do they mean to you?
